With good reason, Camille Saint-Saens (1835-1921) is regarded as one of the most important French composers from the epoch between Hector Berlioz and Claude Debussy. His vast oeuvre ranges from stage works, church compositions, vocal and even military music, symphonies and symphonic poems to various small forms. The Romance Op.37 composed in 1874 belongs to the latter group.

Originally written for flute and piano, the master later conceived a version with a rich orchestral instrumentation.

Available here is the version for Flute and Piano, as edited by Werner Richter. The solo flute part is also included don a separate insert.
