Bernold, Philippe : Le souffle, le son
A selection of exercises and repertoire excerpts to gain control of the air column and develop a beautiful sound.
The breath, the sound is a workbook that extends and amplifies the work discussed in "The mouthpiece technique", a book that has achieved great success. Philippe Bernold, professor at the National Conservatory of Music of Paris, offers in a very playful way new exercises mostly based on works of the repertoire of soloist, chamber music and orchestra (with more than twenty extracts) signed Bach, Mozart, Bizet, Reinecke, Prokofiev, Debussy, Dutilleux, Messiaen ... It will find new vocalizations, fundamental exercises to work the base of the air column and the energy of the breath, and we will approach the work of the mouth and the ends of sentences thanks to the harmonic sounds. The length of the breath and the legato are two unpublished chapters that allow the flutist to play with an expression comparable to that of singers. Finally the last part deals with fundamental subjects such as support, vibrato, air column, jaw movement, timbre, nuances ... in the form of articles that this remarkable flutist and pedagogue, heir of the French school of flute, explores in the light of its educational experience.
